Government needs to strengthen ZEMA says CBE

Copperbelt Province citizens for a better environment executive director Peter Sinkamba and Kalulushi mayor Howard Simpemba have expressed concern over the level of land pollution by the saw milling industry.

The Copperbelt Citizens for a better environment believes that there is need for Government to strengthen the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) to curb land pollution.

Mr.Sinkamba has also observed that there is need for Government to employ more workers at ZEMA for effective inspection of environmental issues.

Meanwhile Kalulushi Mayor Howard Simpemba has proposed that relocating saw millers from the town center into out skirts of the district can help to curb land and air pollution in residential areas.

Mr. Simpemba added currently back yard saw millers have continued polluting the environment due to lack of measures by authorities to monitor their activities.
